The Problem of Happiness.

What is it with this obsession with happiness? Everywhere you turn, there are people promoting happiness, books on happiness, people blogging about happiness, adverts showing us what will make us happy etc.

Happiness is so dependent on things going right or just things. Happiness is fickle and hard to maintain. Joy on the other hand is deeply rooted in our identity in something/someone else, something external yet experienced internally, a faithful, eternal relationship that is actually entirely dependent on the transcendent other and not on us. Joy is unaffected by changes of emotion, status, circumstances or other people.

Why do more people not see through the transience and uncertainty of happiness and seek after, the eternity of joy?
